From New York and Washington D.C. to Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles, more than 2,500 “No Kings” protests unfolded across the United States. Demonstrators called for the defense of democratic values, warning against Trump’s attempts to expand executive power.
Thousands filled New York’s iconic Times Square, holding banners that read “No Monarchy, Only Democracy” and “The Constitution Is Not Optional.”
Protesters waving American flags also carried signs condemning ICE, authoritarianism, and the influence of billionaires in politics.
Some participants appeared in inflatable chicken, frog, and dinosaur costumes, adding color to the massive rallies. Organizers said the costumes reflected the peaceful and creative spirit of the movement.
The protests were organized by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) along with advocacy groups focused on abortion rights, education, gun control, healthcare, and social security. These organizations criticized the Trump administration’s policies, saying they undermined fundamental democratic and civil rights.
Earlier, Trump had shared an image of himself portrayed as a king on social media. Following public backlash, he stated, “I’m not a king.” His remark, however, reignited debate over his leadership style. In response, demonstrators across the nation used the second wave of “No Kings” protests to remind that the United States, in their words, “belongs to its people — not to one man.”
