A military training helicopter crashed in Dorcheh, located in Khomeini Shahr County of Isfahan Province, central Iran, on Tuesday. The aircraft reportedly went down inside a wholesale fruit and vegetable market compound.
Iranian state television broadcast footage from the scene, showing thick smoke rising after the impact and firefighters working to contain a fire that broke out following the crash.
Aircraft Identified as AH-1J Super Cobra
Initial reports indicate that the helicopter was an AH-1J Super Cobra, a pre-revolution attack helicopter still operated by Iranian Army Aviation. The aircraft was reportedly conducting a training mission at the time of the incident.
The AH-1J remains part of Iran’s military fleet decades after being acquired before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Casualties Confirmed
Authorities confirmed that four people were killed in the crash. The victims include the pilot, co-pilot, and two civilians who were working at the market when the helicopter went down.
There have been no confirmed reports of additional casualties or injuries on the ground.
Investigation Underway
The exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Officials have not announced whether mechanical failure, human error, or other factors may have contributed to the incident.
Iran’s Super Cobra fleet has reportedly experienced losses in recent years, including aircraft allegedly destroyed during regional tensions. However, there is no official indication at this stage that the latest crash is linked to those developments.
Authorities are expected to release further details as the investigation progresses.
