According to three current and one former U.S. official who examined the imagery, the troop concentrations and logistical patterns strongly suggest an offensive is being planned. However, it remains unclear whether the Israeli military intends to proceed with an operation or if the buildup is being used as leverage in ongoing diplomatic and political negotiations.

Ground operations in Gaza have been ongoing since October 27, 2023, with pauses during two separate ceasefires. A renewed offensive could involve missions to recover Israeli hostages and expand humanitarian corridors, particularly in zones not currently under active bombardment.

Tensions Rise Over Humanitarian Access

The timing of the buildup follows a dispute between Trump and Netanyahu over reports of severe hunger in Gaza. Trump reportedly dismissed Netanyahu’s claim that the starvation crisis was fabricated by Hamas, citing visual and intelligence evidence shown by his aides. The White House’s growing concerns about its role in supporting the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Fund have added urgency to efforts aimed at de-escalating the situation.

A source familiar with Israeli internal discussions confirmed that a military option remains on the table, but also emphasized that diplomatic calculations continue to shape strategic decisions.
