An Israeli official confirmed the country had received an invitation but did not clarify whether Prime Minister Netanyahu had accepted it. The official spoke on condition of anonymity due to the diplomatic sensitivity. In addition to Israel, Russia, Belarus, Slovenia, Thailand, and the European Union’s executive arm have also received invitations, indicating the U.S.’s broad ambition to involve multiple global actors in conflict resolution.
U.S. Proposes “Board of Peace”
U.S. President Donald Trump initially announced plans for the Board of Peace last September alongside his Gaza peace strategy. The initiative aims to end conflicts globally, extending beyond the Middle East. Last week, invitations were sent to world leaders, including Israel, outlining a broad role in supervising peace and stability efforts worldwide.
Israel Criticizes Gaza Executive Board
The Gaza Executive Board, which will operate under the Board of Peace, has faced criticism from Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office stated that the board’s composition conflicted with Israel’s policies. The board includes Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and a Qatari official, while no Palestinian representatives are involved. Israel has long objected to Turkish participation in Gaza and maintains a tense relationship with Qatar, which mediates between Israel and Hamas.
