September 16, 2025Clash Report
Israel conducted coordinated airstrikes on Yemen’s Red Sea port of Hodeidah on 16 September, hitting three piers with 12 bombs after issuing an “urgent” warning to clear the area. The military framed the operation as a response to repeated drone and missile launches toward Israel, while Houthi officials said air defenses forced some formations to withdraw.
Israeli officials said the operation targeted “military infrastructure” linked to arms transfers used in attacks against Israel and its partners. A senior Israeli official vowed to continue imposing “painful” costs for each attempt to strike Israel, while media briefings emphasized preventing the rehabilitation of Hodeidah’s facilities for hostile use. “For your safety, evacuate the port immediately,” the Arabic-language military notice warned before the raid.
Yemen’s Houthi movement said its air defenses “confused enemy aircraft” and forced some to leave Yemeni airspace, even as explosions were reported at the port. The group has recently claimed drone launches toward Israel, including multiple sorties aimed at Ramon Airport and targets in southern Israel, reinforcing a cycle of action and retaliation.
The strike area sits astride busy Red Sea shipping lanes where recent advisories have flagged explosions and projectiles near merchant vessels off Hodeidah. While damage reports from today’s raid remain limited, insurers and shipowners continue to monitor elevated risk levels for transits near Yemen’s west coast, with prior days seeing alerts of detonations at sea.
