According to Israeli media, Netanyahu plans to present the reoccupation strategy to his security cabinet amid growing frustration over stalled ceasefire talks and political pressure from far-right coalition partners. An unnamed Israeli official told press: “The die has been cast. We’re going for the full conquest of the Gaza Strip—and defeating Hamas.” However, senior Israeli military leaders, including the army chief, are said to oppose the move. One official retorted, “If that doesn't work for the chief of staff, he should resign.”

Jenča warned the strategy would deepen the humanitarian disaster already unfolding in Gaza, which has witnessed more than 60,000 deaths since Israel's military campaign began following Hamas’s October 2023 attack. “This would risk catastrophic consequences for millions of Palestinians and could further endanger the lives of the remaining hostages in Gaza,” he said.

The UN official also stressed that Gaza “is and must remain an integral part of a future Palestinian state,” pushing back against permanent Israeli control. He highlighted continued obstruction of humanitarian aid, noting that current supplies are “grossly inadequate” and that over 1,200 Palestinians have been killed since May while attempting to access food and basic supplies.

Aid Crisis Deepens As Hostages Remain In Peril

Families of hostages expressed concern that the full military takeover could jeopardize negotiations and the lives of their loved ones. Israel believes 49 hostages remain in Gaza, of whom 27 are presumed dead.

Jenča reiterated UN calls for an immediate ceasefire and unconditional release of all hostages. He condemned ongoing violence at aid sites and cited UN-backed reports warning of mass, man-made starvation. The Gaza Health Ministry reported at least 154 deaths from hunger since October 2023, including 89 children, while 63 more malnutrition-related deaths were recorded this month alone.

Though Israel claims there are no restrictions on aid delivery and denies the existence of famine, Jenča countered: “Israel continues to severely restrict humanitarian assistance entering Gaza.” His statement comes as international pressure mounts for a diplomatic resolution and urgent aid access.
