Poland to Build Second Barrier Along Belarus Border
Struggling to stop irregular crossings from Belarus, Poland has decided to construct a second barrier along the frontier, following the earlier 186-kilometer metal wall.
November 14, 2025Clash Report
The Polish government is preparing to reinforce its eastern frontier with Belarus after determining that current measures are insufficient to counter the growing pressure of irregular migration. Officials emphasize that the second barrier will play a pivotal role in stopping those who manage to bypass the first structure.
Features of the Second Barrier
Despite the 186-kilometer, five-meter-high metal wall erected in the summer of 2022, illegal crossings have continued. In response, Poland will now build a four-meter-high wire fence positioned parallel to the existing barrier.
Surge in Illegal Crossings Accelerated the Decision
Polish authorities reported 1,428 unauthorized entries from Belarus in 2025 alone. This rise prompted the government to move quickly on additional security measures. The new structure aims to halt groups that manage to get past the metal barrier.
Timeline Set: Assembly to Begin Soon
Officials confirmed that construction of the wire fence will begin in the coming days. All work is expected to be completed by spring 2026. Once finalized, the government says the fortified border will significantly improve national security.
