The Israeli military released footage showing the airstrike targeting a man traveling by motorcycle in Yohmor, a village in southern Lebanon historically associated with Hezbollah activity. The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed one fatality resulting from the strike.
The IDF identified the victim as Ahmad Mohammad Salah, a commander allegedly central to Hezbollah’s field operations and engineering efforts in the area. “This action was necessary to prevent the reestablishment of Hezbollah’s offensive infrastructure,” an IDF spokesperson said.
Yohmor has been a flashpoint in past Israel-Hezbollah conflicts, particularly during the 2006 war and recent border skirmishes. The strike adds to the growing list of cross-border incidents this year, fueling tensions between the two sides.
The IDF’s statement claimed that Salah’s actions represented a “blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” likely referring to the informal ceasefire arrangements brokered through the United Nations after the 2006 war. Israel holds Hezbollah responsible for all activities south of the Litani River and routinely targets infrastructure it deems threatening.
The airstrike came amid an escalation of Israeli operations across multiple fronts, including Gaza and the West Bank. Earlier in the day, the IDF confirmed additional raids elsewhere in the region, part of what it describes as preemptive security measures.
Lebanon’s government has not publicly responded to the strike at the time of reporting, though it has previously condemned unilateral Israeli actions on its territory. Hezbollah has not yet issued an official statement regarding the death of Salah.
