The disarmament involved several key stages: former fighters surrendered their weapons, underwent medical examinations, received psycho-social support, and completed identification and remuneration procedures. The weapons, which included PKM machine guns, RPG-7 launchers, and various calibres of ammunition, were collected by the mobile team of the UEPNDDRR and secured at MINUSCA facilities. The arsenal will later be officially transferred to Bangui under established peace agreement procedures.
Ex-combatants came from regions including Bria, Alindao, Pombolo, Ebando, Nzako, Goya, Bambari, and other gathering sites. The entire process is part of broader efforts to address security vacuums and promote sustainable peace across the Central African Republic.
Only fighters meeting the official eligibility criteria will be considered for integration into the Central African Armed Forces (FACA) or other national security services. Others will be enrolled in community violence reduction programs, which offer vocational training and income-generating activities to facilitate peaceful reintegration into civilian life.
The DDRR initiative forms part of the CAR’s ongoing political stabilization strategy, backed by international partners including the United Nations. Officials have emphasized the program's importance in securing long-term peace and reducing the risk of renewed conflict in a country long plagued by armed insurgencies.
