Yemen’s Houthis said they have carried out their first military operation using ballistic missiles against what they described as sensitive Israeli military targets, according to an official statement.
The group declared that its operations will continue until their stated objectives are achieved, adding that attacks will persist until what they call “aggression” stops across all fronts.
The announcement marks a formal claim of direct involvement in the conflict, further expanding its geographic scope.
The statement comes after a missile was previously launched from Yemen toward Israel, an incident confirmed by the Israeli military as the first such strike since the war erupted.
The launch followed warnings from the Houthis that they were prepared to act if what they described as escalating actions against Iran and the “axis of resistance” continued.
The Houthis have previously demonstrated the capability to strike targets far beyond Yemen and disrupt key maritime routes in the Red Sea and around the Arabian Peninsula.
The group has said its actions are in support of Hamas following the events of October 7, 2023.
The conflict has already expanded beyond its original scope, with Iran-aligned groups in Lebanon and Iraq also becoming involved.
