Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the brother of King Charles III of the United Kingdom, who lost his “Prince” and “Duke of York” titles over pedophilia allegations, has moved out of his residence at Windsor Castle, one of the official properties of the Royal Family. According to reports in the British press, it has been confirmed that Andrew has vacated the Royal Lodge mansion, which he had used as his private residence for many years.
Reports said that Mountbatten-Windsor was seen riding a horse around the estate and palace grounds yesterday, but those images were taken shortly before the move. It was reported that Andrew has temporarily settled in a house located at Sandringham Palace, about 200 kilometers from London.
New address: Sandringham Palace
According to information reflected in the media, Mountbatten-Windsor will stay only briefly at this temporary residence in Sandringham. Andrew is planned to move into a farmhouse called Marsh Farm, which is currently under renovation and also located on the Sandringham Palace estate.
It was stated that all expenses of the farmhouse at Sandringham Palace, which is the personal property of King Charles, will be covered directly by King Charles himself.
Epstein files and loss of titles
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s name has long been on the public agenda due to his relationship with billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who was found dead in prison while being prosecuted in the United States over allegations of running a prostitution network involving underage girls. Documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice included details of Andrew’s close contacts with Epstein.
Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre had claimed that when she was just 17 years old, she was forced into sexual relations with Andrew, who was a prince at the time. Although Andrew denied the allegations, he relinquished all his titles, including Duke of York, on the grounds of not harming the Royal Family.
However, following newly released documents and growing political pressure in the final months of last year, King Charles formally stripped him of the “Prince” title as well.
Royal Lodge controversy brought to parliament
It had sparked major public backlash that Mountbatten-Windsor had been using the Royal Lodge mansion, where he had lived since 2003, for a very low annual rent and had obtained a 75-year lease for just £1 million.
Criticism that royal revenues and Andrew’s expenses were indirectly covered by taxpayers led the issue to be raised in parliament. Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey called for a comprehensive review of the Crown Estate in relation to Royal Lodge.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer responded to this call by saying, “When it comes to the Crown Estate, it is important that appropriate scrutiny is carried out. I absolutely support that.”
Sarah Ferguson connection also on the agenda
It also emerged that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s former wife Sarah Ferguson had been friends with Jeffrey Epstein. Following this development, many foundations for which Ferguson served as honorary president severed ties with the former Duchess of York.
The Sarah Foundation, which bore Ferguson’s name and was revealed to have taken her own daughters to Epstein’s island, decided to shut down amid growing backlash.
