Hezbollah reported an Israeli airborne raid in eastern Lebanon on March 8, marking the second such operation in recent days. A statement from the group said its group "confronted the helicopters and the infiltrating forces with appropriate weapons." The Israeli military did not immediately comment.

In the Bekaa Valley near the Syrian border, Hezbollah observed 15 helicopters deploying Israeli troops just after midnight. The area is a key political and security stronghold for the group. Earlier, a similar operation near the village of Nabi Chit on March 4-5 killed 41 people, according to Lebanon’s health ministry. Israel stated the raid aimed to locate Ron Arad, an air force navigator missing since 1986, but recovered no findings related to him.

Lebanon has reported nearly 400 deaths from Israeli strikes since March 2, including at least 83 children and 42 women. The casualty figures do not distinguish between combatants and civilians. In southern Beirut, Israel continued airstrikes targeting Hezbollah-controlled areas and announced plans against Al-Qard Al-Hassan, a financial institution affiliated with the group.

Lebanon has been drawn directly into the broader regional conflict after Hezbollah initiated retaliatory fire in response to Iran-backed operations, including the killing of Iran’s former supreme leader. The group, founded by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in 1982, has positioned itself as a critical conduit for Iranian influence in Lebanon.

The sustained Israeli air campaign in Beirut and eastern Lebanon indicates a widening of targets beyond purely military assets. Multiple strikes have hit areas with civilian populations, raising concerns about humanitarian consequences. Hezbollah’s confrontation of airborne forces signals that the group retains the capability to contest limited incursions, particularly in the Bekaa Valley.
