Trump Mentioned in Newly Released Epstein Emails
Newly released emails from convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein show he mentioned U.S. President Donald Trump multiple times in private correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell and author Michael Wolff. Trump has not been accused of any crimes related to Epstein.

The emails, released Wednesday by House Oversight Committee Democrats, were obtained earlier this year following a subpoena of Epstein’s estate. Epstein’s communications with Maxwell and Wolff reference Trump several times, including allegations that he spent time with a woman identified by Democrats as a sex trafficking victim. One message also claims Trump had knowledge about certain young women, seemingly referring to allegations that he expelled Epstein from Mar-a-Lago over misconduct involving female employees.
In a specific email dated April 2, 2011, Epstein wrote to Maxwell: “I want you to understand that the silent dog is Trump… (CONFIDENTIAL) I spent hours with him at my home… his name never came up once. Police chief, etc., I’m 75% there.” Maxwell replied: “I was thinking about that…” The exact context of the message remains unclear.
Background on Epstein and Maxwell
Epstein pleaded guilty in June 2008 to soliciting prostitution from a minor and served 13 months of an 18-month sentence in a minimum-security facility. Years later, his plea deal was heavily criticized for its leniency. Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime partner, was later convicted of sex trafficking. Earlier this year, she told Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in an interview that she never observed Trump in any inappropriate context and did not recall seeing him at Epstein’s residences. “The President would never act inappropriately toward anyone” Maxwell said, adding that he had always been a gentleman in her presence.
In the emails, some names have been redacted by the Oversight Committee to protect privacy. CNN has not yet independently identified these individuals.
Correspondence With Author Michael Wolff
Additional emails involve Wolff, who wrote about Trump’s administration. One message from December 15, 2015, includes Wolff alerting Epstein to anticipated questions from CNN regarding Trump’s relationship with him. Epstein responded by asking how he should reply. Wolff advised a strategy that would minimize public scrutiny while portraying Epstein favorably, suggesting that emphasizing Epstein’s innocence and victimization by political correctness could protect reputations.
Another email, written in January 2019—approximately seven months before Epstein’s death—discusses Trump allegedly asking Epstein to resign from Mar-a-Lago. Epstein claimed, “Trump asked me to resign… I never joined… of course he knew about the girls because he asked Ghislaine to resign.”
Trump’s Response and Legal Context
The White House confirmed that Trump banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago due to inappropriate conduct. Trump has consistently denied any criminal wrongdoing in relation to Epstein. Maxwell also defended Trump, recalling him as respectful and appropriate in her interactions. Trump previously filed a defamation suit against reporters covering his ties to Epstein, including a 2003 gift note referencing Trump and a nude silhouette.
Political and Public Reactions
The release of these emails has reignited debate in Congress and among Trump’s MAGA supporters, spurring efforts to obtain additional records from Epstein’s estate. The House Oversight Committee is conducting separate work to compel further disclosure. Newly sworn-in Rep. Adelita Grijalva is expected to join the committee’s efforts to push for more transparency regarding Epstein’s network.
While the emails contain multiple references to Trump, they largely predate his presidency, and he is not implicated in any criminal activity. The documents offer insight into Epstein’s communications and public relations strategies, as well as his ongoing connection to high-profile figures.
