At least five people were killed and over 20 injured in a Russian missile strike on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Samarsky, marking the second deadly assault on the area this week.
The missile attack occurred on Friday in Samarsky, an industrial hub in Ukraine’s southeast, according to regional governor Serhiy Lysak. The strike, which injured at least four people critically, followed another assault on Tuesday that targeted an infrastructure facility and killed two people.
Local authorities did not provide detailed damage assessments, but emergency response teams were dispatched, and the wounded were taken to nearby hospitals.
Further south, Russia also struck a major energy facility in the Kherson region, prompting local officials to warn residents to prepare for prolonged blackouts. Governor Oleksandr Prokudin stated on Telegram that "Russians decided to plunge the region into darkness," highlighting the growing humanitarian impact of infrastructure-targeted warfare.
Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched 363 long-range drones and eight missiles overnight, primarily aimed at Starokostiantyniv, a city in western Ukraine that hosts a key airbase. No casualties were reported from this wave, and damage assessments are ongoing.
This escalation is part of a broader Russian campaign of intensified strikes as the war surpasses its third year since Moscow's full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
