The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said the operation unfolded in three waves across the night, focusing on al-Shabaab fighters mobilized from Adan Yabal and Ceel Cali Ahmed in the Middle Shabelle region. These militants were reportedly on their way to assist embattled units trapped in Hiiraan.
Despite attempts by the fighters to conceal themselves in remote bushland, Somali forces tracked and neutralized the group with intelligence-led precision. Five additional fighters were seriously injured, while others escaped and are now being pursued.
NISA confirmed that each stage of the operation achieved its intended goals and reaffirmed its resolve to continue targeting al-Shabaab’s leadership and logistics chains.
The Somali government praised the role of foreign partners in supporting the mission, which reflects deepening international collaboration in Somalia’s security strategy. The coordinated offensive comes amid growing regional pressure to weaken al-Shabaab’s ability to maneuver and regroup across central Somalia.
NISA reiterated its commitment to dismantling militant infrastructure and protecting communities from extremist threats. Further raids are expected as Somalia pushes to disrupt what remains of al-Shabaab’s command structure in Hiiraan and beyond.
